Ukrainian Volunteer Day!

Today in Ukraine we celebrate Ukrainian Volunteer Day!

Every year on March 14, we honor the courage and heroism of the defenders of the independence and territorial integrity of our state. Those defenders who voluntarily, at the call of their hearts, stood up to defend our country in the most difficult times.

This memorable date was chosen precisely because on March 14, 2014, the first 500 volunteers of the Maidan Self-Defense left for the training ground in Novi Petrivtsi from Maidan Nezalezhnosti and formed the first volunteer battalion.

In 2014–2015, nearly 40 volunteer battalions fought in the fighting in eastern Ukraine. Most of them later became military units.

In February 2022, during the full-scale invasion, huge lines formed at military registration and enlistment offices, thousands of Ukrainians who had nothing to do with the military took up arms to defend their cities and villages.

Many volunteer fighters laid down their lives on the battlefield.
